Theme of the Issue:
The theme of the volume, which should be named largely historical, is centered around the problem of searching and formation of a new theatrical language, considered by the authors of the journal on the material of Russian and foreign drama and musical theater of the XVIII-XX centuries. At the same time, however, it should be noted that the most studies in volume is directly addressed to the nowadays theatre, also largely focused on finding its own stage language, which would be adequate to the time. Articles and publications of traditional for the journal section «Meyerhold’s Readings» introduce into academic circulation some new perspectives on the emergence of biomechanics in the context constructivism ideas, as well as the history of the large scale unrealized plan of Vsevolod Meyerhold – «History of One City» (1926). Archive publication of the dramaturgical version of the M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin’s tale, performed by Ivanov-Razumnik should be named one of the notable events of modern Meyerhold’s studies. In articles of the «Theatre Frontier» section the authors traced the relationship and mutual influence of visual art and theatre, literary works of different eras and story sources of an Opera libretto, the influence on the choreographic lexica of the twentieth century, which was provided by abstract painting.
